Local River Rafting

Colorado's mountainous terrain and plentiful rivers make it an ideal location
for river sports. The most popular of these is guided river rafting. There
many river rafting companies in the state, each of which specialize in
certain rivers and areas. Most every river rafting company offers half-day
and full-day ventures and the majority of them also offer multi-day trips
that include camping along the river.
Prices are relatively reasonable, with half day treks running around
$50 per person and full day treks (usually including lunch) running
about $80-$90 a person. Some rafting companies offer lower prices for
children. In general, children under the age of 16 are not allowed on
the treks involving higher class rapids.
Almost every rafting company requires the use of life jackets, which
are provided. In addition, due to the risk involved in whitewater rafting,
all rafting companies will require you to sign a release form prior
to your departure.
Area rivers include; Green River, Clear Creak, Colorado River, Arkansas
River, North Platte, Dolores, Gunnison River, Rio Chama, Rio Grande,
and the Yampa River.
Necessary attire for river rafting includes quick drying shorts and
shirts (avoid cotton), and shoes that can get wet and will stay on your
feet. Lifejackets and wetsuits (when necessary) will be provided by
the company as well as transportation to your put- in location.
For those who don't like to share, many of the companies also offer
guided kayak tours and lessons.
